they still want to believe ….I do don’t you
There’s no Santa?!
Binkey
I don’t remember it being a big deal. It just came on gradually, until they figured it out on there own.
Santa Claus was never a part of my childhood Christmas holidays. Christmas was about the birth of Jesus Christ. I love that.
My children just grew out of it, there was never any great big “to-do” about it. The same when I was a child.
I was upset, but I was also smart enough to never say a word to my parents……They took such joy in playing Santa..LOL
Santa was not really a big part of our holiday, we all knew the presents under the tree were from Mom and Dad and they never tried to make us believe there really was a Santa Claus. Of course we would always go visit one downtown to get the free candy cane though.
I kind of figured it out for myself, so I wasn’t overly distraught.
Our son, who is now a scientist, figured it out on his own. He told us that he knew that after he went to sleep on Chirstmas eve, we should seek out to Kroger and buy the toys and presents and put them under the tree.
can’t really remember all those years ago but I believe I just took it in stride
My brother killed it for me when I was fairly young, he showed that the presents from our parents and Santa was the same paper. Wah wah wah.
Not a big deal.
you mean there isn’t a Santa Clause Virginia??
It was disappointing to learn Santa wasn’t real, but I was old enough to understand that it was my parents’ love that made gift-giving a reality.
I still believe
When they saw him at the mall with no glasses on and 20 minutes later in a parade with glasses on and different boots they figured it out.
My son took it matter of fact after he found the presents under thebed. Me, I was rather sad when at age 7 I found out.
I continued the Santa ruse until my children felt sorry for me.and informed me that it wasn’t true! As a kid, my friends all discussed it and we let it go for fear we’d get fewer gifts if we didn’t go along with it.
My daughter just sort of shrugged and said,”It seemed a little far-fetched to me.”
I plan to teach my children the “Spirit of Santa” and the giving and caring for one another… that and show them the Rudolph cartoon to teach them where he actually came from… and we carry on the tradition today… then you’re not really lying to them !
When very young I was taken to a department store downtown for a photo with “Santa.” But I never was taught to believe that this man, or the one shown on Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, came down my chimney.
The truth? What ever do you mean? You mean how he knows if you have been good? He looks in our shoes on Dec 6 – if they have candy, then we were good. If they have coal…well, the Gloal Warmists will come after us!
After i told my daughter , she goes ” Mom i already knew this, i was wondering how long i had to wait until you told me the truth “
I’m still having problems dealing with the Santa Claus issue… Maybe that’s why I never had kids…
I lost that magical anticipatory thinking…wish Santa had brought me a time machine,,,,I would like to have that feeling again…:-)
It was a real letdown but I had my doubts as I grew older.
I guess I learnt it from my older friends when I was about 8 and it made me feel pretty grown up! 🙂
My child somehow has seemed to know about everything. He was unfazed.
I think I was almost beginning to figure out the ridiculousness of Santa coming through the chimney. So yeah- I took it well
My kids found out at school- so I was saved the effort. And I guess it helped them to come to terms with it too.
My younger kid had too many questions and I had to settle her questions about Tooth Fairy and elves’ existence as well 😦
My kids just liked seeing the Santa at the mall but never actually believed that the presents on christmas came from anyone but Mom and Dad 🙂
I felt cheated at first but gradually got used to the idea
My neighbors’ kids told my 8 year old and I believe my son took it well coming from his peers.
My Mom told me about it when I was 7. But I don’t remember being too upset because she said that dad and her would still get me the red bike! 🙂
I never really sat my kid down to disclose this secret. She figured it out on her own and wa spretty okay about it too.
My son wasn’t too distraught so that was a relief for me 🙂
It was no big deal for me. I think it is more a rite of passage for any 8-10 year old kid
It has been so long ago for me that I really can’t recall. My children have always known that Santa wasn’t real.
my kid reconised my brother/that’s all it takes
I was sure I replied, but once again I don’t find it. What do you mean, “The truth”? Do you mean how he knows if you have been good? That’s easy, he looks in our shoes on Dec 6 – if they have candy, then we were good. If they have coal…well, the Global Warmists will come after us!
When I found out found that the Easter Bunny wasn’t real I just figured out that Santa wasn’t real! But I wasn’t really upset when I found that out!
I still played along with it……..it fun just doing that!
I don’t remember anything tragic happening when I found out!
My older brother told me there was no Santa and I ran to my mother heart-broken. If I remember correctly though, I had figured it out beforehand, I was just disappointed that the make-believe had come to an end. Now, having an adult’s understanding of the REAL meaning of Christmas, it is more special than anything I could have imagined as a child. I love Christmas!
When my daughter was nine years old, my wife told her she better improve her grades or Santa would not leave presents for her that Christmas, she told my wife that Santa was not a real person and she knew that the Christmas gifts came from us.
AMEN TO JANIS PARKS….
no children:(
I was shocked when I spotted my parents being Santa when I was only six. I didn’t say a word about it for over two years!
No kids- but I was only 4-5 when I found out- however I prefer St. Nick’s Day
