Ha, can’t mention it!!
I received a number ten can of purple plums. It was a family joke from my childhood memories.
A root canal for a skiing Christmas in Western Germany…
A carved wooden pickle.
The most unusual gift I was given was a can of WD-40.
A car battery!
A jar of green olives! DELICIOUS!!!
The most unusual gift I have ever received is a “hippie stick”!
A small jar of carved elephants!!!
A bread machine. That may not sound unusual but it was for me since I didn’t bake or cook at the time but the simple device started me on the road to doing and enjoying both.
A halter for my horse an a subscription to Western Horseman, I was 10 years old and I was thrilled.
Well I am always pleased when mother nature puts all the snow in the mountains and none where I (and my loved ones) have to drive/walk… not having to shovel snow priceless!
Since I’m kind of a old technology buff I received a miniature model of a Sterling Engine that actually functioned….it was unusual but I loved it and it still sits on my desk till this day…I’ll “fire” it up for friends and relatives and they always get a kick out of it….to others it may be unusual but to me it is one of the coolest “unusual” gifts I ever received.
The most unusual gifts I ever received fall into the category of stocking stuffers. One doesn’t usually think of these items as “gifts,” but that is the way we did things in our family. Our stockings had a few Hershey’s kisses along with deodorant, dental floss, and Bic pens.
a scale model of the first car I owned
small meteorites
Unusual gifts are not scarce in our extended family. We hold a post-Christmas stocking party with food and the gifts that change hands can be weird. Often the only person who gets the gag is the one who got the gift. Everybody else just sort of shrugs. My step-son-in-law gave me a pewter nutcracker in the form of a squirrel. Everybody knew about the squirrel that ransacked our house while we were in France so it got a laugh. I will get him back some day. Happy Holidays!
Most unusual was probably the book “Charlotte’s Web,” which is a children’s book about a spider named Charlotte. The giver thought if I (an adult) read it perhaps I would not be so terrified by spiders. It didn’t work….
Most unusual was a tv vcr combo, people were so jealous.
I don’t know if I would consider it unusual, but I had a girl friend years ago that bought me a bouquet of flowers once for the heck of it. I actually thought that it was pretty nice, but most of the time I think that flowers are for the girls rather than the guys and since I am a guy, I thought that it was unusual at the time.
A very feminine looking scarf, to this day I still assume the giver mixed up the wrong present to the wrong box, at least that’s what I hope happened. But all was not lost, I re-gifted it to my wife!
The most unusual gift I received was a bottle of Jack Daniels from a college friend. I got it an opened it in front of my non-drinking Baptist family! What a surprise!
A bath set…. What do I stink??
fruit cake…at age 11…lol…
A ceramic snake that was 3 feet tall
A miniature coffee cup with my name on it. I don’t collect miniatures so it was a bit puzzling.
A very generous (and unexpected) check from an aunt. We were pretty poor at the time and it was such a wonderful surprise. I didn’t tell my husband but went out and bought nice gifts for him and for our daughter. They weren’t expecting anything for Christmas but it was so much fun to surprise them. I will never forget that Christmas.
A black shirt. And here i thought red and green were the season’s colours!
Casserole of chicken soup. And I’m a vegetarian so had to find a suitable person to pass it on,…quick 🙂
An inflated tube wreath- it was bit too weird!
A fine bone china tea set. It was so out of my league I just couldn’t believe someone could actually gift me that!
Swim suit! 😮
a dozen apples. So simplistic and yet so unique! 🙂
A pair of gloves 🙂
A pea cap
An ink pen. i don’t even know how to put it to use.
A coach bag. But it was in a raffle draw! 🙂
One plastic tumbler. Not a set. only one. It sits pretty at the back of my kitchen cabinet. Its quirky! 🙂
I can’t recall anything unusual. My wife once before we were married gave me a gift that I unfortunately can’t recall but I had to follow a lot of directions that finally led to the gift in a tree in the yard. We had a lot of fun with that one.
Well, it was a calico stuffed chicken pin cushion…..40 years ago, and I still have it. I love it.
When I was a child, friends and family would ask me what I would like as a gift. Most of the time, it didn’t matter what I would say; they would give me sweaters. My hobby this one year was building radios, tvs, ham equipment, usw – so I told everyone who asked that I really wanted a soldering iron. Well, that year I got 23 soldering irons and only 3 sweaters.
Was a Thumb Tack…To this day I don’t know why I was given it..I am sure there was a good reason, at least I hope the intentions were good. Merry Christmas.
An ugly Christmas sweater and I still have not worn it.
bathroom scales….hot pink bathroom scales….lol
Joe Namath action figure
At a white elephant Christmas lunch I received a framed picture that had small lights in it that flashed.
A broken used tape measure from my older brother. I guess he was paying me back for stepping on his tape, breaking it, then laughing.
i use to listen international braoadcast RRI [dxer] i received one packet of perodicals about romania, the envelope in which the periodicals were packed having thirty postage stamps of romania.it was great to have such collection of postage stamps of romanian postage.
I really don’t remember. My parents always looked out for me. However, one year my friends gave me a gift certificate to a clothing store for overweight women. It’s about three years later and I still have the gift certificate of $29 from my friend. Everytime I go into the store they look at me and question why I’m shopping there. I’m not super skinny, but I’m not super fat either. I don’t know how to unload it without being robbed. One police department about one hour from here is allowing people to meet and exchange craigslist items. Who is going to believe there’s still $29 on the gift card?
I got a really cool turtle that would spit out a ball when you rolled it backwards – was one of the most awesome toys – still remember that one – loved to play catch with balls all the time – so was the perfect gift for this tomboy !
