We’ve all been there. It’s bed time and you look at the clock and 15 minutes have passed but you’re still wide awake. Tick-tock, tick- tock, you look at the clock again…..10 minutes have passed and you’re no closer to sleep. Now you’re getting frustrated and anxious. You need to fall asleep and the more you think about it the less likely you are to nod off . You know your partner is unknowingly rubbing it in by being sound asleep, but you decide to start World War Three by turning on your radio (or Kindle or iPhone) so you can distract your thoughts and finally get some much-needed sleep. Sound familiar?
If so, we have some solutions for you.
Our first option is the SoftSpeaker Pillow Speaker – This little device is also known as the marriage saver. It is soft enough that you can lay directly on the plush covered speaker or you can place it under your pillow. Plug it directly into the headphone jack of your device and you can listen to whatever you want without waking your partner. Now you’ve avoided World War Three and you’ve gotten to fall asleep (or at least learned something interesting) making tomorrow a much better day than it would have been otherwise. We have this version of pillow speaker available with a volume control.
Our newest solution in the struggle for slumber is the Amplified Pillow Speaker with Kevlar. We created it based upon feedback from users of the original SoftSpeakers and it is designed to overcome limitations with newer technology. We’d heard from many of our customers that the devices they were plugged into such as iPads, Kindles, iPhones, Chromebooks, etc. were “too quiet” or “barely audible”. This has even been a problem for some radio listeners. This prompted us to create an amplified version to allow you to listen at a volume that works for you, even when the device you’re using wants to limit the loudness. Whether the issue is your device or the fact that your ears don’t work the way they used to, the Amplified SoftSpeaker Pillow Speaker will allow you to get rid of the earbuds and the frustration of getting tangled up and enjoy your audio books, Netflix or radio show at the volume you prefer.
If you aren’t sure which solution is right for you, please call us and we’d be happy to walk you through making a selection.
Getting a good night’s sleep may be more important than you think. According to the National Sleep Foundation, there are many negative health effects from inadequate sleep ranging from unsafe driving to heart disease. Listening to 45 minutes of music before falling asleep relaxes your parasympathetic nervous system, which helps your body relax. Sleep is such a hot topic, Oprah’s O Magazine had an entire section dedicated to it in the January 2018 issue.
I like to listen to Coast to Coast. The amplifier and timer would be good for me.
The memories of falling asleep to the sounds of a radio, especially talk radio are sweet and go back as far as to when I was a little boy. I remember my mom and dad settling into bed for their long winters nap and as part of their routine they would put on a pleasant local talk radio show… the soft voices and stories that came from the speaker would soon bring everyone to a beautiful sound slumber. As I became a little older, I acquired a little pillow sleeper that I bought with money from delivering newspapers… such a joy it was to fall asleep as my parents did, but with this ”new technology “… it’s been years since I’ve seen that speaker and I miss it so. But the beautiful memories will always be there..
I have been on Dialysis for 24 Years And falling asleep can be difficult But listening to Coast to Coast AM and Audio Books Really Help…
I listen to Clyde Lewis, and Coast to Coast am all night! But the volume is stuck too high on my CC Pocket radio!
Please call us about your CC Pocket to see what we can do to resolve this issue for you.
I listen to either WSM Nashville, TN., or to Clark Howard on WSB Atlanta, GA.
Great product idea, I could use these for listening to the radio at night.
I set my ancient Uniden CR-2021 to 20 minutes and listen with an earbud under the pillow (only one side has output because it’s a mono jack) to Clark Howard or perhaps the Bruins during the Winter, and to the Red Sox during the Summer. I almost never notice when the radio shuts off because I’m usually long gone by then. The Pillow Speaker, I’m sure, would have much better quality sound.
I go to sleep with sermons, news, or audio books. Music does not put me to sleep as well, and I learn something before falling asleep.
I have the soft pillow speaker. I listen to coast to coast am
I listen AM Coast to Coast.
Coast to Coast is my lullaby of choice! I love getting the major news updates, and experts who give their opinions, followed by a thought provoking interview. I listen each night on my tablet with a C. Crane pillow speaker so I don’t disturb my spouse, always aware that he doesn’t know what he is missing. I have a hard time falling asleep without my lullaby!
My wife listens to audiobooks at night and I listen to coast to coast on 1320 AM
I listen to Coast to Coast every night. That’s how I fall asleep.
I often listen to talk radio, like Coast to Coast. My girlfriend doesn’t really like listening in bed so either I wait till she is asleep and listen quietly, or she comes to bed after I’m asleep and shuts it off.
I suffer from PTSD, and have a trouble sleeping through the night. I listen to Coast to Coast a lot, and sometimes I watch videos on my tablet. A soft speaker may be just the thing I need.
I have my CCrane WiFi radio on 24/7. I was so impressed by the WiFi radio that I purchased 2 more for my family. I listen to Midnight in the dessert on the Dark Matter Digital Network every night to fall asleep.
I usually fall asleep listening to NPR, I awake to the same thing.
Never tried something like this, but would love to try it out.
The idea of having amplified pillow speaker may be a good idea for my Dad, who is having difficulty in hearing.
Coast2coast AM
I normally listen to “sports talk” radio for a recap of the day’s activities.
I like to listen to FM all nite when I camp out in my pickup truck.
Usually listen to Amazon music or sometimes local radio.
I listen to WGN in Chicago although I live in Northern W Iso the super Radio is great
The hearing with my left ear is bad from shooting firearms. I have to put an old Sony radio under my pillow to listen with my right ear pressed against the pillow when going to sleep. My wife has to have the TV on to go to sleep so the TV sound is muffled with my left ear exposed. What can i say? The radio is a bit hard under the pillow but I make it work. A pillow speaker would be an awesome and much used addition to my nightly ritual to go to sleep!
Alan,
A possible solution for the TV audio – if you have two separate radios that can receive FM, would be to purchase one of our FM Transmitter 2’s https://www.ccrane.com/item/acc_trans_trans2/100106/digital_fm_transmitter_2_for_sending_near_broadcast_quality and plug that into the headphone jack or line out of your TV. Find an open FM frequency and broadcast the television audio from the FM Transmitter to a radio near your wife that receives that same FM frequency. Plug a pillow speaker into that radio and now you won’t have to listen to your wife’s TV show. This blog post talks a little more in depth how this might work https://news.ccrane.com/2016/03/30/work-around-hearing-loss/
Always just put the radio under my pillow. Would love to have one. I’m sure it would be so much more comfortable.
I listen to Redeye Radio. It’s a live feed from Dallas and I listen via my iPad through Iheart radio app. These guys are super entertaining and informative. The pillow speaker would be awesome as I know it’s top quality since it’s from C Crane. I’ve got three radios, AM antenna and my most favorite, the earbuds. I need this.
I have access to one of the best NPR stations (WNYC) and sports talk (WFAN), I couldn’t sleep without their lullabies
I always listen to Coast to Coast AM Radio or Midnight in the Desert either internet radio or one of two Nashville, TN radio stations…I’m addicted as soon as my head hits the pillow. A pillow speaker would sure be a great thing to have cause ear buds sometimes do get uncomfortable.
These speakers are excellent I have used the ones w/o volume control for years. Addition to the volume on the speaker prevent my disturbing the wife, reaching for the volume control on the radio… Thanks CC
I put on a CD of instrumental music, on repeat, of course.
I became addicted to “Coast to Coast” with Art Bell (1990?). I still fall asleep at night listening to “Coast to Coast” with George Noory on my Sangean ATS 818 I purchased from C Crane Co. in about 1990. It is a wonderful radio..
coast to coast radio show for sure
I’ve been listening to Art Bell/George Noory (Coast2Coast) for so many years, I can’t even remember how long it has been. I’ve fallen asleep to Midnight in the Desert and awaken to alien bumper music. I’ve traveled the world over with my Baygen Freeplay plus, all the while being in the comfort of my cozy bed. Dang, I really love my radio!
I listen to Antioch 1710 via Tunein to listen to “The Whistler”, the most popular west coast radio show of the 40s and 50s to help me fall asleep at night.
Coast (listen on 1940s Firestone AM radio) OR BBC overnight (on C. Crane Skywave) OR Old- time radio CDs- Suspense, Inner Sanctum Mysteries, The Whistler, X- Minus One OR Podcasts- Lore, Librivox audiobooks. Who needs cable??
I listen to my CC Radio 2 every night on snooze at bedtime. WCPE Classical, Raleigh NC
I think that I speak for many of us when I say that I probably would never have known about C. Crane if it weren’t for the many long sleepless nights!
Because it takes a long time for me to fall asleep I listen to one of three radio stations.
It’s either classical music on Kusc or the BBC on Kpcc. I wake up about every four hours and the routine starts again. I have ear buds which are awkward and the pillow speaker sounds perfect .
I usually Just Fire up My Tablet eReader, with Sound Turned Off – and Screen Set to Dark Black Background with Lowered Red Letter Font – Low Light Level and Pick a eBook or Continue Reading the Current Title I am Reading ….
Coast to Coast, which comes on around the late time I go to bed. I set the timer for 90 minutes.
There’s really only one radio program to listen to in the middle of the night, Coast to Coast with George Noory. In the Seattle market they replay the 4 hour block, back to back….it’s great!
I usually listen to Coast to Coast until they get political then I change stations. I don’t need their opinion because it usually get me riled up and then I really can’t sleep. I had bed phones that fitted into a headband but they kept moving and the headband kept sliding down over my face. Now I am using ear buds that work good but they are uncomfortable. I would love to win the under the pillow speaker.
Coast2Coast on weekends. Lots of other stuff during the week.
Go to YouTube: 3 Hour Relaxing Guitar Music: Sleep, Meditation, Instrumental, Calming, Soft, 528 Hz – Chris Madsen https://youtu.be/yCbtNTYZz9A … It works wonders… 😴😴😴 Research 528 Hz
Years ago I had a pillow speaker from Radio Shack. Was not as good as these but liked that I could listen while not disturbing my wife next to me.
I listen to talk radio It helps me relax and keeps me up on the news of the day.
I have PTSD problems and have used CCrane radios for years to help get to sleep. It’s far better to hear Red Eye radio than to relive combat memories. I achieve REM sleep readily with ear buds but would probably be much healthier with a pillow speaker.
My husband always has a hard time falling asleep. Sometimes he only ends up sleeping a couple of hours at night. I am wondering a pillow speaker with timer will help him fall asleep.
Usually I’ll listen to a replay (via podcast) of that mornings Bill Handel show from KFI, Los Angeles.
I’ve used a soft pillow speaker every night for the past 15 years. I tune into KYW 1060 news. This speaker has indeed saved my marriage as my Wife can sleep soundly as well with no audible distractions.
My wife & I have different station favorites. I’d probably need two pillow speakers.
