“Leaving On a Jet Plane”… I admit , I had to look it up… 1700 was a great album!
Peter, Paul and Mary’s hit in Christmas 1969 was “Leaving on a Jet Plane.” I was eleven at the time. I remember the time well. The U.S. lunar mission had just successfully landed men on the moon with Apollo 11 in July of that year and Apollo 12 successfully landed in November 1969. It was an exciting time!

Love that trio, and it was Leaving on a Jet Plane they also had a Christmas song that year, I think it was called Christmas Dinner but I’m not 100% sure.

I confess that I had to research this. It’s The Marvelous Toy. I don’t remember the song at all.

The name of the song was “The Marvelous Toy” according to the internet. I was 10 years in 1969 and do not remember hearing that song.

Leaving on a jet plane was the song then.The song certainly made it clear flying on a jet airliner then was an urgent and expensive way to travel for average travelers the fastest way possible.A luxury still then,funny just heard that on oldies AM station in Elyria couple of days ago.Song very similar to The Letter except their leaving lover.The letter song is coming home song.Ain’t got time to take a fast train.✈
