There was a recent detailed blog post by Edison Research President Larry Rosin that discussed how programming strategies for American commercial radio is changing the face of radio. We know this isn’t news to you and we have experienced it as well. Many of you have told us about getting “news” that is from a town 2 hours a way or a metro area that has no relationship or knowledge of your town. Sometimes it is a format change from News Talk to News Information where there may still be local talent but they aren’t necessarily hosting a show. Other times it’s a full-fledged change where there is no or minimal local staff and that person has little to no influence on the success or failure of the station or what is being broadcast.
One of his points that is interesting, is will this be a boon to stations that actually keep and develop true live and local talent? Is that a selling point for advertisers? Is that a listener loyalty point – would you be more likely to listen to live local talent or do you prefer the syndication or is there a happy medium?
Here in Columbia we have no local radio personalities Thats my opinion dont listen to to many music station but its a never ending rerun of the same old poo Thank goodness for Internet radio
I can’t stand most of the syndicated talk show hosts. I like better educated hosts who have a wide diversity of topics and go into more depth. I hate the propaganda program of Clear Channel. I like some of out local talent, while others are banal. Ah….for the good old days.
I love night time radio and always listen to coast to coast and to NPR. I have an older model ccradio. It is good about 50% of the time-don’t like antennas, so I put up with it. 780 used to be the best station for coast to coast, but it has left…very sad. Bring it back, PLEASE!
If you have Internet access at home you should invest in a basic Internet Radio. I have 2 of them, both from C Crane. No more fade, weak signals, static, etc. Just good quality reception.
Art Bell attracted me to begin listening to talk radio, I sure miss him.
I listen to conservative talk radio every day now and sometimes in the evening. I don’t care for a lot of the local talent, but they are better than the ranting and deceiving liberals.
